A DJL Construction project to transform Lymm Methodist Church into a fully accessible, more energy-efficient church and community facility is now complete.

Work at the church on Eagle Brow, in the centre of Lymm village, began in January 2026 and took seven months to complete. Improvements to the historic buildings include a new ground-floor entrance with an automatic door, lobby, lift, low-rise staircase, accessible toilets and new kitchenette.

As part of the church’s aim to reduce its environmental impact, it removed gas from its buildings and ending its use of fossil fuels. A new, highly controllable blown-air heating system was also installed, powered by highly efficient air source heat pumps.

This technology will reduce running costs and local air pollution and is estimated to cut the church’s carbon emissions by at least 80 per cent. It can also be used to cool the buildings during heatwaves. Further energy-efficiency improvements include the installation of L.E.D. lighting and the upgrade of insulation in the church’s extensive flat roofs, creating thermally efficient ‘warm’ roofs.

With two floors and five levels, access to the church buildings had been difficult. The installation of a lift, low-rise staircase and ramps has made every space accessible to all, from young families with pushchairs to those with limited mobility, or in wheelchairs.

Along with the installation of modern fire detection systems, the changes have made the building safer for everyone. New lighting and redecoration have also made the church a highly attractive space for services, concerts and other community events.
