Lymm Methodist Church development progressing on schedule

MAY 2026

Work to transform Lymm Methodist Church into a fully accessible community facility is making good progress and is on track for completion by the end of summer 2026.

Located on Eagle Brow in the centre of Lymm village, the project began in January and will see a range of additions and improvements to the existing church and communal spaces to enhance accessibility for visitors.

The scheme includes a new ground-floor entrance and lobby, the installation of a lift, accessible toilets, a new kitchen and other internal improvements designed to make the building easier to use for vulnerable visitors and those with limited mobility. Lymm Methodist Church describes the scheme as a ‘building for everyone’.The church will also be equipped with theatre lighting to support community events, with new renewable energy measures and highly efficient air source heat pumps projected to reduce energy use by 80 per cent.

Lymm Methodist Church has roots dating back to 1849, when it began as a Primitive Methodist chapel. The current church building was erected in 1897 and, in 1968, it united with the former Wesleyan Chapel on New Road.

More than 400 people use the church building every week through groups and activities including Scouts, Brownies, Beavers, a community choir, yoga, tai chi and Pilates.

Since works started, church services have been held at St Peter’s Church Hall in Oughtrington, with other activities hosted at alternative venues across the village.

The project design and delivery team includes Lancashire-headquartered DJL Construction, architect The Finalson Partnership, Innov8 Development Solutions, which is providing project and cost management services, and structural engineers, Bell Munro Consulting.

Daniel Livesey, Managing Director of DJL Construction, said: “With the building spanning two floors and fire levels, access can be difficult for many visitors, so the new entrance and lift will make the church far more accessible for visitors, which is one of the key goals of the project.

“The entire project team is proud to be involved in such an important community project. Once complete, it will be a far more accessible and modern space that will serve the church, the local community and new visitors for many more years to come.

“We look forward to seeing the doors reopen.”
