We undertook the construction of 68 industrial starter units, ranging from 650 to 1,000 sqft, to support small businesses in Blackburn.
Each unit featured robust pad and strip foundations, a steel frame with a masonry or metal cladding façade, UPVC high-level windows and aluminium doors, windows, or roller shutter vehicle access.
The sloping, exposed site – formerly used as a fill site during the construction of Guide Reservoir – presented challenges during construction and required detailed planning. Today, the units are home to a varied mix of occupiers, including sports nutrition companies, investment businesses, storage operators and trade businesses.
The powerfloated concrete slabs ensured a durable and smooth finish, while comprehensive infrastructure and external works completed the project scope. These high-quality starter units address the growing demand for functional and versatile spaces for small businesses, fostering local economic growth.
This project not only supports SMEs but has also established DJL Construction as a key player among industrial unit developers, solidifying our reputation for excellence in this sector. DJL has also completed a new 29,634 sq ft Northern Removals Hub in Knowsley, which will become the new headquarters of John Mason International.
